Lazio London Concrete

To make it as simple as possible we’ve put together some helpful tips and guidelines for measuring your wardrobe space. This has been put together from the vast knowledge of our experienced installation team over numerous years.

We highly recommend that you take 10 minutes to read through these tips and guidance before starting your project.

Things To Consider

So you’ve probably already identified the ideal location for your dream wardrobes. There are things to consider to ensure there will be no complications when installing them and also you have the space around them so they’re functional. We’ve listed below the main things to think about. All of the below are examples and could differ for your own space.

Your Bed

Is there enough room between the bed and wardrobe?

One of the largest items in your bedroom will be your bed. The size and position of your bed will impact on where your wardrobes will be located. You need to ensure that there is sufficient room between your bed and the wall that your wardrobes are going on. Typically the depth of a wardrobe is 600mm (60cm). Then there are the doors to consider when opening them. If your doors are 500mm (50cm) wide you will need a minimum of 1200mm (120cm) between the wall and your bed (600mm for the wardrobe depth, 500mm for the door and 100mm clearance).

Doorways

How many door openings are in the bedroom and where are these in relation to the wardrobe doors?

Make sure that the position of your wardrobes aren’t going to interfere with doors opening or their operation. You need to ensure that your bedroom door can open to at least a 90 degree position from when opened.

Also consider things like, can you get furniture in and out and is access easy for people? Every house will be different.

Windows & Curtains

Where are the wardrobes in relation to any windows and curtains?

If your wardrobes are going onto the wall where the window is located, take care to note where the curtain pole finishes and your wardrobes.

If your wardrobes are going on the adjacent wall, which is often the case, it’s important to ensure that the dimension up to the window is greater than the wardrobe depth, typically 600mm (60cm). There are ways to get around this with a side panel set back if required - please contact us for more details if needed.

Bedside Tables and other Furniture

What other furniture is close by?

If your wardrobes are going to be located close to other furniture, you again need to think about the space for the wardrobe depth and the wardrobe doors opening. The main issue might be a bedside table and the wardrobe being fitted to the adjacent wall. Always consider whether the door will open.

Light Fittings

Are there any spotlights in the ceiling where you’re going to install your wardrobes?

If you have a hanging light fitting where you’re going to install your wardrobes, will your doors hit it when they’re opened?

Switches and Sockets

Will the wardrobes cover any light switches or sockets?

Make sure that your wardrobes don’t cover over any light switches. If they do you may need to instruct an approved electrician to move these. Additionally if there are any sockets covered by the wardrobe, you may want to move these or think about maybe bringing them through into the wardrobe.

Our wardrobes are supplied with a void behind them, so sockets can be covered over if safe to do so and you probably won't need to move or remove them.

Radiators & Pipes

Are there any pies or radiators on the wall?

You can’t build your wardrobes over a radiator unfortunately, so if this is the case it will have to be relocated.

Pipes can be built in front of though, so if it’s a case of building your wardrobes in front of the pipes, you’ll need to increase the overall depth of the wardrobes. Also if you have any side panels (Gables) the depth of these may need to be increased to allow for the hidden pipes at the back.

Skirting Boards

Will my skirting board cause any problems? If you have skirting boards on the wall we’d always suggest leaving these in place. This way if you ever remove your wardrobes in the future the skirting board will still be there. There will be no issue in fixing your wardrobes just in front of your skirting board, just remember to allow for this when ordering any end gables.

Coving

Does your ceiling have any coving?

If your ceiling has any coving this could impact the height you want your wardrobes to be. If this is the case and you want to have floor to ceiling wardrobes, please contact us and we can advise on what your options are.
